Lions struggle against Southeastern in series finale

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial suffered its biggest loss of the season in a 25-1 defeat to No. 1 Southeastern in the final game of the series.

The Fire came out of the gate with a 15-run top of the first, propelling them to a commanding lead. Junior Pheron Charlton scored FMU's lone run off a Luis Ruiz RBI in the bottom of the first, before the Fire added an additional 10 runs throughout the afternoon. The game ended after seven innings due to the mercy rule, handing Florida Memorial the 25-1 defeat.

Junior Kelvin Feliciano (2-1) was credited with the loss, allowing two hits, and four earned runs. Binger, Okla. native Jacob Williams came in relief, allowing seven hits and two earned runs in his lone inning pitched while striking out one Fire. Hialeah Gardens native Jerryk Caceras pitched for two innings allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out one Fire.

Mexico City native Andres Mendes was next on the lineup for FMU, allowing three hits and six earned runs to go along with his lone strikeout. Sophomore Daniel Ramos came in relief and in one inning allowed one hit and one earned run while striking out one Fire. Senior Ricardo Alvarez de Lugo finished on the mound for the Lions allowing five hits and two earned runs in his two innings of action.

The loss drops FMU to 16-16 on the year and 5-11 in conference play.

The Lions return to action Thursday, April 11, where they'll host No. 5 Webber International for game one of the weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.
