MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | The Florida Memorial University men's soccer team defeated NCAA Division II opponent Barry University by the score of 2-0 at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
"We studied film and I really felt good about our chances," said FMU men's head soccer coach David Martinez. "We came up with a good plan with our coaches, and our team executed to perfection. I'm so proud of my guys as we prepare for a big game on Saturday."
The Lions took an early lead in the 24th minute as
Michel Klein took a rebound from a Bucs defender and buried it in the back of the net past Barry goalkeeper Rafael Furlani for the go-ahead goal and eventual match winner. FMU followed up with another goal in the 30th minute as
Johan Arevalo added an insurance goal for the Lions.
Barry finished with 11 shots while Florida Memorial University finished with five. FMU goalkeeper
Ricardo Delgado Villalobos kept a clean sheet, allowing zero goals in 90 minutes of action while generating two key saves in the victory.
FMU will return to action on Saturday, September 21 as they host the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA, St. Thomas, in the Battle of Miami Gardens. Kickoff from Orange Bowl Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
