FMU baseball splits road doubleheader against Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. | The Florida Memorial University baseball team split a road doubleheader against Warner at Royals Field. However, the contests will not count as conference play.

The Lions got on the board in the first inning when Armando Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Ernie Farrell to score. In the bottom stanza, Warner responded with two runs, taking a slim lead. However, FMU tied the game in the fourth inning when Jason Ramos generated an RBI-double, scoring Christopher Marte. In addition, the Lions regained the lead in the sixth inning Kidane Stephens produced an RBI-single that brought home Raymond Rivera for the go-ahead run.

In the seventh inning, Rivera hit his second home run of the season, which ended up being the game-winning run as FMU held on for the 5-3 victory.

FMU pitcher William Hiciano earned the victory, striking out four Royals batters while giving up two runs on five hits through 5.1 innings pitched while teammate Brandon Roman earned the save.

The Lions struggled in game two of the doubleheader, allowing six runs in the second inning. FMU pitcher Daniel Ramos was credited with the loss, allowing one earned run while producing one strike out in one inning before being replaced by Jerryk Caceras, who allowed five earned runs.

FMU returns to the diamond on Saturday, February 15 as they face Webber. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Lake Wales, Fla. (on the campus of Warner University).
