FMU men's soccer breaks winless streak with 2-2 tie against Florida National

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University's winless streak comes to a close, as the Lions tied Florida National 2-2 in a thrilling match.

FMU kicked off the scoring in the 10th minute, when senior Nikos Koutsourais, assisted by Michel Klein, found the back of the net to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. They would keep the lead for the rest of the first half, but FNU retaliated with their first goal in the 72nd minute to tie the match. The Lions would face adversity, as Florida National scored on a penalty kick in the 79th minute to take the lead from FMU. Junior Julian Restrepo answered the call, as with assistance from Vicente Silva, he scored the Lions second goal in the 87th minute to equalize the match once again, ending it in the 2-2 tie.

Sophomore Frank Sanchez led the team in shots with three on the day, all of them being shots on goal. Goalkeeper Ricardo Delgado Villalobos played all 90 minutes once again, allowing two goals and generating two saves defending the net.

The tie moves FMU to 2-3-2 on the season.

The Lions return to action Wednesday, September 24, when they'll travel to West Palm Beach to take on Keiser in non-conference play. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at the Keiser Multi-Purpose Field.
