MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University tied Florida National in their home opener 1-1 at Dr. Lester Brown Park. After being down 1-0 at halftime, the Lions put massive pressure on FNU in the second half to find the equalizer early into the half.
FNU kicked off the scoring in the 15th minute, putting FMU behind early. After a pedestrian first half, the Lions came out swinging in the second half, with 18 shots and holding FNU to 0. One of those shots came from senior
Jada Samuels, who found the back of the net, with assistance from
Jayda Simmons in the 56th minute to tie the match 1-1. FMU continued to put pressure on Florida National, but couldn't find tie-breaking goal in time, resulting in the tie.

Alba Carcamo-Alvarado had a fantastic day on offense, leading the team in shots with four, and had two shots on goal. Samuels, senior

Alexia Medrano Martinez added three shots on the day, with Samuels having a pair of shots on goal herself. Senior
Tiare Gomez Salo chipped in a pair of shots for the Lions, while goalkeeper
Isabella Rueda allowed one goal and had one save.
The tie moves FMU to 2-1-1 on the season.
The Lions return to action Wednesday, September 24, when they'll host Webber International in non-conference play. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
