MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University was swept by Fort Lauderdale in the Saturday doubleheader, losing game one 2-0 and game two 11-6. FMU dropped its first home series after opening with a 13-6 win on Friday.
Game 1:
Fort Lauderdale scored the games only two runs in the top of the third, while shutting out the Lions for the first time this season.
Esteban Jogins started for the Lions and in 3.2 pitches, allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out three Eagles.
Jamal Johnson finished on the mound, striking out four Eagles.
Game 2:
UFTL exploded with 10 runs in the first three innings to take a commanding lead. The Lions scored one run each in the fourth and fifth, from
Wilber Puertas and Evan Leal, before UFTL scored another run in the top of the seventh. FMU scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh, and looked to mount a comeback, but couldn't get those final runs in time to take the game to extra innings.
Jesus Gonzalez started for the Lions, allowing eight earned runs while striking out four Eagles.
Jesus Ramos was next up, allowing two earned runs while striking out two Eagles.
Marwan Khatib was next in line, striking out four Eagles, followed by
Sebastian Fernandez and
Diego Coss.
The losses drop FMU to 3-5 on the year.
FMU returns to action Thursday, February 26 for game one of the four-game series against Florida National. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.
