CORAL GABLES, Fla. | Florida Memorial University opened its 2026 track & field outdoor season at the Hurrican Invitational.
In the men's field events ,
Kalil Murphy notched his first victory of the season winning the men's triple jump in 14.26m and 4th place finish in the long jump. In the shot put
Narrson Tulloch placed third with a throw of 13.70m and fourth place finish in the discus. Teammate and two sport standout
David Buggs finished sixth in the discus and seventh in the javelin.
On the track side conference indoor champion
Braylon Colgrove opened his with a fifth place 10.73 in the100m. Colgrove also set a personal best winning his 200m heat with a time of 21.53. Also in the men's 200m, teammate
Mense Houndje set a personal best with a time of 22.57 and 51.21 in 400m. Freshmen Savion Barnes posted times of 22.81 (200m) and (400m) 50.47, while teammate
Isaiah Palmer in 100m, posted a time of 10.78.
On the women's side,
Yasmyne Williams continues to improve on her performances over the hurdles breaking her own school record. With a time of 14.12, Williams becomes fastest in school history under any conditions. Her time landed her as the B standard national qualifier.
Also on the track
Shanise Ellis opens up with her season with her first 100m since being a lady lion with a respectable 12.14 and 200m in 25.26.
In the field events
Akira Hamilton jumps a personal best in the long jump of 5.73m, just missing B national qualifying standard of 5.78m. Teammate
Taela Campbell tossed a personal best in the javelin with 29.11m. Campbell also completed in shot put, discus and hammer throw.
"This weekend was a very good performance for the team," said head coach, Dwayne Miller. "All we can do is build on it and continue to grow and get better!"
The Lions return to action Saturday, March 28, for the Nova Southeastern University Shark Invitational in Miramar, Fla.
