MIRAMAR, Fla. | Florida Memorial University had a phenomenal weekend at the HBCU Relays, which saw them take home multiple gold medals, up in Miramar.
As the men and women combined produced six first place, four second place, and two third place medals this weekend at the Ansin Sports Complex.
Junior Akira Hamilton began the gold rush by winning the long jump with a personal best of 5.76m, two cms shy from national qualifying mark. Teammate Amealia Smith secured second place with a season best of 5.29.
Smith also placed first in the triple jump with 10.34m. In the javelin, Serena Edwards tossed a winning throw of 26.85m.
Finally the women's relays 4x100 and 4x400 with Hamilton, Smith, Shanise Ellis and Yasmyne Williams, finishing first in both relays and a national qualifying mark in the 4x100 with 47.19
Narrson Tulloch placed first in the men's discus with 45.71m and third in the shot put with 14.47m.
David Buggs finished third in the hammer with 35.33. Teammate, Kalil Murphy continues to work hard placed second In both long jump and triple jump. And finally Mense Houndje, placed second in the 400m posting a season best wa time of 50.69.
The Lions return to action April 25, for the SUN Conference Outdoor Championship in Lakeland, Fla.
