LAKE WALES, Fla. | Florida Memorial University fell to Warner 3-2 in Lake Wales in game one of the series. The Lions outhit the Royals, 8-3, throughout the game, but in a tight game, the Royals had a two-run bottom of the sixth that allowed them to overtake the Lions. Despite a run in the top of the ninth, the Lions couldn't get the final run to send the game to the bottom of the inning, resulting in the loss.
Teammates,
Don McKnight III and
Daniel Lopez, led the team in hits with two apiece, while teammates
Pheron Charlton and
Damarion Butler scored the Lions' pair of runs. Sophomore,
Jesus Gonzalez, started on the mound, allowing two hits and zero earned runs, while striking out five Royals in 4.2 innings. Freshman,
Marwan Khatib, (1-1), was credited with the loss, allowing one hit and two earned runs, while striking out six Royals, in 3.1 innings.
The loss drops FMU to 14-14 on the year, and 1-8 in conference play.
The Lions return to action, Friday, March 27, for the doubleheader at Warner. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Daly Field.
