AVE MARIA, Fla. | Florida Memorial University's postseason hopes stay alive, as the Lions took home a commanding 18-4 victory over Ave Maria in the series finale. The offense fired on all cylinders in the second half, as from innings 4-8, the Lions scored at least one runs an inning, with four innings of three runs or more, including an eight-run top of the eighth. With the win, FMU sits one game out of the final spot in the SUN Conference Tournament, with four games to go in the regular season.
Teammates
Wilber Puertas and
Pheron Charlton each scored a team-high three runs, while designated hitter,
Damarion Butler went 4-of-6 at bat, along with two runs and three RBIs. Infielder,
Daniel Lopez, led the team in RBIs with four, adding two runs and two hits to his stat sheet.
Freshman,
Marwan Khatib (2-1) got the win. In six innings, he allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out two Gyrenes.
The win moves FMU to 20-23 on the year and 8-16 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Thursday, April 23, for the series opener versus RV Keiser. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at Harry T. Moore Baseball FIeld.
