MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Sometimes coming home can make things a lot better.
Florida Memorial University's men's basketball team will take its home floor for the first time this season Tuesday night when the Lions host Florida National University at 8 p.m. in the FMU Wellness Center.
The Lions (1-3) will be looking to rebound after a close loss to Ave Maria University this past Saturday in its Sun Conference opener. FMU held an 85-82 lead over the Gyrenes late, but Ave Maria went on a 10-0 run and ultimately knocked off the Florida Memorial 96-90.
Returning home, playing as the nightcap game in men's-women's basketball doubleheader, and playing in front of what is expected to be one of the biggest home crowds of the season should give the Lions an extra boost against a Florida National (5-3) team that has gotten the best of FMU in the past few matchups.
FMU senior guard
Jordan Martin has proven himself to be a reliable scoring option for the Lions this season. The 6-foot-5, Atlanta, Georgia native has recorded at least 20 points in three of the four games this season – including a season-high 23 against Ave Maria.
Balancing out the Florida Memorial attack will be 7-foot, junior forward
Mubashar Ali. Ali, one of the country's leading rebounders, recorded an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double against Ave Maria but may have to work a bit harder to control the backboard since FNU also has a 7-footer on its roster.
