MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's baseball team will hit the road once again this weekend as it opens Sun Conference play against University of South Carolina-Beaufort in a two-day, three-game weekend series at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex in Bluftton, South Carolina.

It will be the Lions' third attempt at playing an officially scheduled road game so far this season. However, it will likely be the first time they actually get to take the diamond. FMU's first two scheduled road series' – January trips to LSU-Shreveport and Benedict College – were both canceled before the team could leave South Florida due to inclement weather in the visiting city.

Ironically, there was rain in Friday's forecast in Bluftton, South Carolina, which forced the teams to switch the format of their three-game series. Instead of playing two games on Friday and one on Saturday, the Lions will play a single game against the Sharks at 5 p.m. on Friday and play a doubleheader – 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. – on Saturday.

Florida Memorial head coach Florentino "Tino" Burgos and his team did get their first win of the 2020 season this past week, taking home a 4-3 win over Florida National University in 10 innings thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Gabriel Marinez.

While it was the closest-margin game the teams had played in recent years, the Lions (1-4) were just happy to come out with the victory.

In facing USC-Beaufort, FMU will be going up against a team that it hasn't had much success against over the past three seasons. In nine meetings, the Lions have gone just 2-7 against the Sharks and only one of those victories were on USC-Beaufort's home field.
