MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will open up what will be an extended homestand Friday when it hosts Keiser University for a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday at Harry T. Moore Field.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Leap Day (Saturday, Feb. 29), with the first game set to begin at 11 a.m. and the second game beginning 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first.
The Lions (4-8, 3-3 Sun Conference) have been on the road the past two weekends – taking a weekend series from University of South Carolina-Beaufort two weeks ago and falling to Ave Maria University this past weekend – and will welcome the upcoming stretch of consecutive home games.
FMU will play what will be 23 straight individual games – against eight different opponents – beginning in the final weekend of February through the first week of April.
Opening up against Keiser, the Lions will be facing a team that comes in as winners of its past four games. The Seahawks (11-3, 3-2) knocked off Florida National University in a single game then swept Webber International University by a combined score of 39-8.
Because Kesier has shown itself to be a potent offensive squad – with nine different batters hitting .321 or better – pitching will be a huge factor for concern for FMU head coach
Florentino Burgos. The Lions' pitching staff has flashed the ability to shut down opposing bats, but it also has shown a propensity to break down.
Florida Memorial's bats have had some juice early on this season, too.
Senior
Jouseph Renovales leads the team with 13 hits, nine runs scored, and six RBI while
Rohandry Javier has a team-leading .385 batting average while accumulating 10 hits and six runs scored.
