MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will be looking to "get right" this weekend and possibly snap its current losing streak when its hosts Chestnut Hill College this weekend for a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday at Harry T. Moore Field.
Friday will be a single game between the teams – set for 2 p.m., then the Lions will play a doubleheader with the visiting Griffins on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
Florida Memorial (4-11) comes into the weekend series champing at the bit for a victory. Since taking the first game in a weekend series over Ave Maria University two weeks ago, the Lions dropped the subsequent two games against the Gyrenes and was then swept by Keiser University this past weekend.
What's stuck in FMU head coach
Florentino Burgos and his players' craw is the way that those five losses came about. The Lions weren't played off the diamond in those five games, instead, all five were close and competitive games that swung on the events of one or two innings.
In welcoming Chestnut Hill, an NCAA Division-II school located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Miami Gardens, the Lions will be facing a team that will ultimately be playing its fourth, fifth, and sixth games in a six-day span. The Griffins' trip to South Florida began on March 2 with two games in two days against Barry University, followed by a March 5 trip up to West Palm Beach for a game against Concordia College (N.Y.), and will culminate against FMU this weekend.
While some may want to claim fatigue for the Chestnut Hill, Florida Memorial owns the all-time series advantage against the Griffins, winning 5 of the 7 meetings between the programs – so there is a precedent of success for the Lions against Chestnut Hill.
