MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The last time Florida Memorial University's volleyball team stepped on the court against College of Coastal Georgia, it was the championship game of the 2019 Sun Conference tournament. It was the apex of the Lions' run to the conference crown, rallying back from a 2-1 set deficit – for the third straight time in the tourney – to capture FMU's first Sun Conference title.

While the stakes won't be nearly as high, FMU will be looking to upend Coastal Georgia this weekend when it travels to Brunswick, Georgia to face the Mariners Saturday afternoon in the CCGA's Coffin Gym.

The match is set for a 2 p.m. first serve and will be closed to visiting fans, but will be available to watch for free online via live stream.

Florida Memorial (3-2, 3-2 Sun Conference) rolls into Saturday's game having completely dominated Warner University in its previous match this past weekend. Led by sophomore and 2019 First Team All-Sun Conference selection Biancaliz Cruz, the Lions – now playing with 10 players instead of the "nine strong" roster it had through the first three games of the season with the return of Andressa Souza to the lineup – cruised to a three-set sweep.

Cruz has been playing strong volleyball for FMU over the past week, leading the team in kills in that span and earning an "Attacker of the Week" nomination.

In Coastal Georgia, Florida Memorial will be facing a team that's been a bit inconsistent. The Mariners (2-2, 2-2) opened the season with a road win at St. Thomas University, then lost two straight before picking up a five-set win over Southeastern University this past Wednesday.

The Mariners have their own stalwart player that's been shouldering a large load in junior outside hitter Giovana Larregui Lopez. In a three-week span, Lopez earned both Sun Conference Defender of the Week honors (Sept. 7) and Attacker of the Week honors (Sept. 21), showing her versatility and overall prowess.

Saturday will be a proverbial "chess match" between FMU head coach Marrita Crockett-Moulton, who owns a 2-1 record against the Mariners in her tenure leading the Lions, and Coastal Georgia's first-year head coach Israel Delgado.
