Lions Can’t Topple SCAD Saturday

Box Score HIALEAH, Fla. – Shorthanded and playing in an unfamiliar "home" venue, Florida Memorial University showed a substantial level of resilience but couldn't overcome Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) Saturday morning, falling 5-0 at Goodlet Park in Hialeah, Florida.

The Lions (0-7, 0-2 The Sun Conference) had to play its home match Saturday away from the friendly confines of Dr. Lester Brown Park – the program's home soccer complex for this season – as the park couldn't accommodate FMU's doubleheader soccer day.

Worse yet, Florida Memorial first-year head coach Anna Maliszewska came into the weekend with a shortened roster as multiple players missed the game due to injury and lost a handful of her other available players to in-game injuries Saturday – leaving the Lions with just 10 available players at one point against the Bees.

Still, FMU held SCAD (6-3-1, 2-0-1) to just two first half goals. The Bee's offensive pressure was unrelenting – as Florida Memorial's roster shrank – and they were able to tack on three more goals in the second half to sink FMU.

The Lions attempted three shots Saturday – one each from Nathaly Valladares, Johana Karbanova, and Natalie Puntonet – while SCAD was credited with 25 total shots (17 on goal) and five corner kicks.

Florida Memorial will have a couple of days to – hopefully – mend a few of its injured players before traveling to Lake Wales, Florida to face Warner University on October 7th for a 6 p.m. match.
