MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University snapped a 34-game losing streak with its hard-earned 2-1 win over Edward Waters University this past Monday and will be looking to pull off the biggest upset of the season Thursday when its hosts No. 2 Keiser University at Dr. Lester Brown Park for an 11 a.m. match.

The Lions (1-12, 0-8 The Sun Conference) used Donna Perez's two-goal performance to power the victory earlier this week while freshman goalkeeper Hailey Ilijin made a handful of impressive saves and blocks to keep the Tigers at bay in the second half as they tried to rally.

Monday's win was the culmination of a season-long commitment to "process" for first-year head coach Anna Maliszewska and her team, as they continued to battle through attrition in what has proven to be an injury-riddled season.

Still, the Lions will want to finish strong in what will be their final home regular season match of the season. Florida Memorial will play its final two games of the 2021 season on the road - at Ave Maria University (Oct. 30) and at NCAA Division-II opponent Barry University (Fla.) (Nov. 4).

The consolation for winning their first game is a meeting with No. 2 ranked Keiser University. The Seahawks have won their past eight matches and have outscored their past three opponents 12-2.

Florida Memorial could be catching Keiser at the right time, however. The Seahawks have already clinched the Sun Conference regular season championship (best record) and may elect to rest players in preparation for postseason play. Perhaps going up against a Keiser lineup that is compromised could open the door for Florida Memorial to use the confidence boost gained from Monday's win to spark an upset Thursday.
