MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's women's soccer program will play its final conference game of the 2021 season this weekend when it travels to Ave Maria University Saturday to face the Gyrenes in a 1 p.m. match on AMU's Gyrene Field.

The Lions will be looking to avoid going winless against Sun Conference opponents for what would be the fifth straight season. FMU's last conference victory came against Ave Maria back in the 2016 season, when the Lions topped the Gyrenes 2-0.

A win Saturday would also mean that Florida Memorial (1-13, 0-9 The Sun Conference) would also notch its first multi-win season since 2016.

FMU enters the weekend ready to get back on its feet following a 7-0 loss against No. 2 Keiser University. The shorthanded Lions struggled to manufacture any pliable scoring opportunities against the Seahawks but showed resilience in the second half, only allowing two goals and playing a more solid overall brand of defensive soccer.

The Lions will be taking on a Ave Maria team that comes into the weekend having lost five of its past six games and also sitting outside of the TSC postseason tournament picture.

Florida Memorial first-year head coach Anna Maliszewska will want to see her team take another step forward in its mentality and focus by battling through adversity and playing with urgency as they hope to build momentum as the offseason is on the horizon.
