MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will be looking to avoid losing consecutive games and quickly reestablish itself as the "alpha" in the conference when it travels to face Ave Maria University Saturday afternoon.

The match, which will be played at the Rhodora Donahue Academy Gymnasium and is set for a 2 p.m. first serve, should be just what the proverbial doctor ordered for the Lions as they have the chance to get sour taste of defeat out of their mouths.

Florida Memorial (6-4, 5-1 The Sun Conference) saw its overall, home, and conference winning streaks snapped Wednesday, dropping the "Battle of Miami Gardens" 3-0 to rival St. Thomas University. The Lions seemed a bit out of sorts against the Bobcats, committing 34 unforced errors and posting a season-low attacking percentage.

Even with the team's struggles, offensive stalwarts Sammyra Albarran and Biancaliz Cruz still posted game-leading numbers – finishing with 14 and 13 kills respectively. Setter Agustina Busque also had a game-high 20 assists an Alanis Santana was right behind with 18 assists for Florida Memorial.

Looking to deal FMU a second-straight loss will be an Ave Maria team that also will be hoping to avoid a two-game losing snide this weekend. The Gyrenes (11-7, 3-3) dropped a tough match 3-2 at Keiser University earlier this week – snapping their two-game win streak – and sent them tumbling down the Sun Conference standings into a tie for the No. 5 spot.

Florida Memorial head coach Marrita Crockett-Moulton felt that her team's emotions were a bit too high heading into the game against St. Thomas, and they'll need to avoid that this weekend as AMU is a more than formidable foe. Ave Maria is third in the conference in hitting percentage, while also ranking No. 1 in digs, kills, and assists per set.

Aside from Cruz's and Albarran's production, the Lions looked their best during its winning streak when it also got major defensive and – in-turn – offensive production from middle blockers and sisters Daphinie and Kimberlie Correa. When the 6-foot-2 Brazilian siblings have been their best, they've stymied opposing hitters and provided Florida Memorial with emotional lifts.

The Correa's – with some help from Azmabeth Infante – will need to bring their "A-game" to slow down Ave Maria's top two attackers this season, 6-foot middle blocker Madelyn Haut and 5-foot-8 athletic outside hitter Rita Campos.
