FMU Drops Two Saturday, Loses Weekend Series At No. 15 Keiser

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Florida Memorial University had a tough weekend on the diamond as it dropped both games of a doubleheader against host No. 15 Keiser University Saturday on KU's Alumni Field.

The Lions lost the first game of the day 12-2 – an identical margin to Friday's series-opener – and dropped Saturday's second game 18-8 despite racking up 13 hits. All three games were ended after the eighth inning as the 10-run rule was activated.

With Saturday's results, Florida Memorial (6-7, 3-6 The Sun Conference) dropped its first road conference series of the season. It was also the first time this season that the Lions didn't capture at least one win in a three-game set against an opponent.

The Lions' bats were quiet again in the first game Saturday. Following a 5-hit performance Friday, FMU was only able to record three hits in Saturday's opener. Keiser University jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the bottom of the sixth inning before the Florida Memorial was able to get on the board. It was in the top of the seventh that the Lions got 2 of their 3 hits and was able to manufacture a pair of runs – one on a KU fielding error the other on a Rohandry Javier single.

Keiser (16-4, 5-4) plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh and another four in the bottom of the eighth to take a 12-2 lead and end the game.

Julio Creazzola and Jalen Young with the other FMU players to record hits in the first game Saturday while the Seahawks tallied 12 hits and handed freshman pitcher Dawrin Ruiz his first loss of the season.

LIONS LOSE HIGH-SCORING GAME-TWO SATURDAY
Saturday's second game saw Florida Memorial have a better day offensively, but it still wasn't enough to upend Keiser.

Lions head coach Florentino Burgos mixed up his lineup a bit for the second game and it yielded 13 hits. Zachary Urso led FMU, going 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored. Reserve catcher Raul Torres was 2-of-4 with a double and a RBI; Rohandry Javier also went 2-for-4 with a RBI; and Carson Sorrell was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Florida Memorial took a 3-2 lead at the top of the second inning after an Urso 2-RBI single but that would be the Lions' only lead of the game – and the weekend – as the Seahawks responded with six runs in the bottom of the second to retake the lead and pull away from FMU.
