Lady Lions Fall At Warner University Saturday

LAKE WALES, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's flag football team scored its first points of the 2021 season – and in the school's history – Saturday but couldn't out-pace host Warner University as it fell 47-13.

New addition to the Lions' flag football roster, Kaylee Higgins – who is also a member of FMU's women's track and field team – scored the first touchdown in program history when she stepped in front of a Dakota Naples pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.

Higgins' historic pick-six also put the Lions on the board for the first time of the day Saturday, unfortunately Florida Memorial was trailing 47-0 prior to her scoring play.

The Lions, who will travel to play Webber International University this coming Saturday (March 6), scored its first offensive touchdown later in the fourth quarter when quarterback Kholee Caudell connected with freshman Aryanna Alvarez on a 6-yard pass into the end zone – cutting into their deficit again and ultimately creating the final 47-13 margin.

Alvarez led the team in receptions Saturday with 3, racking up 13 yards. Linsley Francois finished with a team-high 19 receiving yards and completed a pass. Caudell was 7-for-22 for 40 yards with her late touchdown pass and 2 interceptions.

Higgins finished with a game-high 6.5 flag pulls; Sarah Lugo had 5 flag pulls and a sack; and Francois also had 5 flag pulls for FMU (0-2, 0-2 The Sun Conference)

Warner University (2-2, 1-1) had 307 yards of total offense – all generating from Naples, who had 246 passing yards and 61 rushing yards.
