MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – As the regular season continues to wane, if Florida Memorial University is to make one last push to possibly climb up the conference standings it must begin this weekend as the Lions host Warner University for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday at Harry T. Moore Field.

This weekend's series – which will open with a 3 p.m. single game Friday followed by a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. – will be the final conference weekend series that FMU will play on its home diamond this season. The team has two non-conference single games left on its schedule, including April 27th's Senior Day game against Florida National University.

University fan attendance protocols is allowing for a limited amount of both home and outside fans attend baseball games. Because entry is free, seats in the bleachers are first come, first serve and once the maximum capacity is reached, no more fans will be granted entry.

Fans will also be able to follow along with the game via a live stream and live stat portal.

The Lions (12-18, 5-13 The Sun Conference) dropped a tough game at Ave Maria University this past Tuesday. Florida Memorial nearly erased a 5-run deficit in the ninth inning but saw its rally fall short and took an 8-6 loss.

While the loss to the Gyrenes didn't count in the conference standings – because midweek single games between TSC opponents are considered non-conference – it still stumped the Lions' ability to build some momentum heading into the home stretch of the season.

FMU did record its 14th straight game where it registered at least six hits Tuesday, led by Luis Rivera's and Gabriel Marinez's 2-for-5 days at the plate.

Warner University comes in as a bit of "wild card team". The Royals (22-17, 6-9) are just 2-5 in their past seven games but those two wins came against No. 8 Keiser and Webber International University, which received votes in the last NAIA National Baseball Poll.

Because Warner has been spotty with its performances recently – seemingly only bringing the extra effort when taking on ranked teams – perhaps FMU will be able to have its bats come alive early and put the Royals on their heels.

Even if Florida Memorial's offense continues to be solid, the key will be the performance of the Lions' pitching staff. Rafael Fernandez pitched a gem of a game this past weekend in the series against No. 14 St. Thomas University, which propelled the team to a 5-2 win – Burgos' first against the Bobcats – and earned him Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, but the staff hasn't been able to produce that same kind of output in the last three games.

Fernandez will likely see mound as a starter again this weekend, but it'll be interesting to see who else Burgos hands the ball to while going up against a Warner University team that ranks fourth in the Sun Conference in hits and runs and is fifth in home runs and total batting average.
