MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid this week when it hosts Sun Conference foe Webber International University Thursday night in the FMU Wellness Center.

The game, which is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start, will officially tip-off 30 minutes following the conclusion of the preceding women's basketball game between the programs.

About The Lions
  • FMU enters Thursday's game with the sour taste of back-to-back close losses coating its mouth following an 87-91 loss at Ave Maria university this past Saturday.
  • With the loss at AMU, the Lions have lost its past two games by a combined seven points; a tough pill to swallow given they held leads during the second half of both games.
  • The two losses also dropped Florida Memorial from being tied for first place in the Sun Conference standings to being tied for third place with Warner University.
  • Senior guard Corey Benton has scored 20 points or more in back-to-back games for the Lions, making it five times in the past seven games that he achieved that feat.
  • Since returning to the lineup back in December, guard Eric Hester has been a solid contributor adding scoring punch as driver to complement Benton in the backcourt.
  • FMU has missed the production of 6-foot-9 senior forward Brent Holcombe. The team's second leading scorer on average, Holcombe has only posted 11 points (shooting 5-of-18 from the field) in the past two games.

Scouting Webber International
  • WIU enters Thursday's game as winners of two of its past three games, including a 65-51 loss at Thomas University this past weekend.
  • The Warriors have struggled when playing away from its home gym this season, posting an 0-5 record in road contests this season.
  • Senior 6-foot-3 guard Jaylon Myles leads Webber International in scoring this season with 13.4 PPG but is just one of two players averaging double-digit points for WIU this season.
  • Webber ranks in the bottom half of the Sun Conference in overall field goal percentage (40.6) and three-point shooting percentage (32.4).
  • The Warriors are led by second-year head coach Gabriel Rutledge, who spent four seasons as an assistant with WIU before being named the head coach prior to the start of the 2020-21 season.
  • WIU has two losses against University of Fort Lauderdale, a team that Florida Memorial defeated at the start of the season.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial trails the all-time series against Webber 7-9.
  • The teams have alternated victories over the past four meetings, with FMU's last win coming in the Dec. 5, 2020 meeting.
  • Historically, the Lions are 2-6 at home against the Warriors, but FMU is currently sporting a 5-1 record on its home floor so far this season.

Keys To Victory
  • FMU has to create and exploit mismatches with its treasure chest of towering frontcourt players, using the height advantages of Holcombe, 6-foot-10 Jethro Tshisumpa, and 7-foot Mubashar Ali against the Warriors – whose tallest active player measures 6-foot-7.
  • If the game is close, the Lions have to elevate their late-game execution; a trait that hamstrung the team in the past two games.
