MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Encouraged by their improved performance this past Wednesday, Florida Memorial University's flag football team is confident it can earn first-ever victory when it faces Midland University (Neb.) Friday afternoon at St. Thomas University.

Friday will be a doubleheader for Midland, who will take on host St. Thomas at 1 p.m. then play the Lions at 3 p.m. on STU's Field.

About The Lions (0-3, 0-3 TSC)
  • FMU enters the matchup having been handed a 27-7 loss by TSC rival Keiser University this past Wednesday.
  • The Lions trailed KU, which reached the NAIA Flag Football championship game this past season, just 14-7 at halftime and through much of the third quarter.
  • Quarterback Amia Badgett had a bit of a bounce-back game, completing 14 of 23 passes with a touchdown and just one interception – after a five-INT performance in the second game of the season.
  • Receiver Erika Johnson set a new single-game program-high for receptions with her 8 catches against the Seahawks.

Scouting Midland (0-1)
  • Midland University was shutout by Keiser University in its season-opening game on Feb. 12.
  • The Warriors had just 98 yards of total offense in that game and had four passes intercepted.
  • MU went 7-12 this past season but went 0-4 against Sun Conference teams.
  • Midland sophomore quarterback Mikaela Nunez was named an All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) honorable mention for her play this past season.

Series History
  • Friday's game will be the first-ever flag football meeting between the programs.

Keys To Victory
  • When the Lions take care of the football – like they did a better job of in the game against Keiser – they can find an offensive rhythm – especially featuring Johnson and Ashleign Gary.
  • FMU needs to score early, putting Midland in the trail position early could shake the Warriors' confidence.
