MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Riding high after picking up its first Sun Conference weekend series win this past weekend, Florida Memorial University will be looking to keep its positive momentum rolling as it hosts NAIA independent University of Fort Lauderdale for a single game Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Harry T. Moore Field.

The time for Tuesday's game, which will be the first meeting between the programs, was moved up an hour – from 2 p.m. to 1 p.m. – to accommodate the women's postseason home basketball game in the FMU Wellness Center at 5:30 p.m.

About The Lions (5-2, 2-1 TSC)
  • FMU enters the week having taken two out of three games from host Warner University in its first TSC weekend series of the season.
  • Senior outfielder Rohandry Javier had a solid weekend, totaling 4 hits, 4 runs scored, 3 stolen bases, and was credited with 7 putouts.
  • The Lions have turned heads early on, knocking off Keiser in the season-opener back on February 2 and taking the series from Warner – both of whom were regarded as two of the better teams in the Sun Conference.
  • Sophomore pitcher Joselito Baez earned a Player of the Week nomination for his performance in relief in the Feb. 18 game against WU – throwing 2.2 innings with 3 strikeouts and shutout the Royals while the Lions rallied to win 8-5.
  • Florida Memorial head coach Florentino Burgos has seen his team hit .298 overall through the early part of the season with a .425 slugging percentage.

Scouting Fort Lauderdale (13-9)
  • Fort Lauderdale comes into the early-week matchup as winners of its past nine consecutive games.
  • Granted, those nine victories all came against just two opponents – as the Eagles played Edward Waters University five times and Atlantis University four times.
  • Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Wilbert Javier-Vargas led UFTL in almost every major hitting category, batting .447 with 34 hits, 32 runs scored, 24 RBI and 3 home runs.
  • Fort Lauderdale has played eight total games against three other Sun Conference teams – Ave Maria University, Southeastern University, and Webber International University – so far this season and is 1-7 in those meetings.
  • Also, the Eagles are 3-8 when playing on the road this season.

Series History
  • Tuesday will be the first regular season meeting between the programs.

Keys To Victory
  • FMU needs to score early – like it has in most of the games it has won this season. Getting on top of Fort Lauderdale early could shake their confidence.
  • It wouldn't be shocking to see Coach Burgos throw a veteran arm in the single game because the Eagles are coming in with such hot bats.
