MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – As good of a start as Florida Memorial University has gotten off to this season – holding its best record through the first eight games of a season in over seven years – it knows that the outcomes of matchups like this weekend's will be the true indicator for this season as it hosts Webber International University for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday at Harry T. Moore Field

First pitch of the Lions' (6-2, 2-1 The Sun Conference) Friday game is set for 2 p.m. and the teams will be back on the HTM diamond Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.

About The Lions (6-2, 2-1 TSC)
  • FMU enters the weekend having picked up a 5-4 win over visiting University of Fort Lauderdale this past Tuesday.
  • After leading 3-0 through the fourth inning then falling behind 4-3 in the fifth, the Lions needed an eighth-inning RBI sac fly from catcher Luis Velandia to complete their rally back.
  • First baseman Nathan Harris led the way with two runs scored and a triple, he also was a part of ninth-inning double play that helped shut the door on Fort Lauderdale.
  • Injuries have started to nag Florida Memorial head coach Florentino Burgos, as he had to shuffle his batting order and pitching rotation over the past week.
  • Still, the Lions continue to prove to be a potent offensive ballclub – scoring an average of just under eight runs per game, hitting .287 as a team, and notching 27 stolen bases in 31 attempts.

Scouting Webber International (14-1, 0-0 TSC)
  • Webber International is currently riding a 12-game winning streak.
  • During their win streak, the Warriors defeated University of Fort Lauderdale, Warner University, and swept No. 6 Faulkner University at Faulkner by combined score of 19-5 in three games.
  • WIU is one of the few teams that rivals Florida Memorial in terms of offensive output, recording 11 home runs and 117 hits as a team so far this season.
  • Six different Warriors players already have double-digit hits, led by Kenny Rodriguez's 16 hits.
  • Webber head coach Collin Martin is in his third season leading the team and eighth year overall with the Warriors.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial trails the all-time series against Webber International 36-7.
  • The last time the Lions took a weekend series from WIU was the 2018 season, when it rebounded from a single loss and took both games of a doubleheader on March 17th, 2018 (5-4 and 7-0).

Keys To Victory
  • FMU's pitching staff will be tested this weekend; they cannot allow an inning to snowball and take the team out of the game.
  • The Lions showed it can manufacture runs, even when the batting order isn't at full strength, it wouldn't be shocking to see high-offensive output games by both teams this weekend.
