MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will continue its slate of non-conference spring break games this weekend as it welcomes in NCAA Division-II Chestnut Hill College (Pa.) for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday at Harry T. Moore Field.

The teams will play a doubleheader Friday – two seven-inning games – with game one set for an 11 a.m. first pitch. The weekend series will conclude with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.

About The Lions (10-6)
  • FMU snapped a three-game home losing streak this past Tuesday with its 9-2 win over Bryant & Stratton College-Albany (N.Y.).
  • Outfielder Jalen Young helped spark the win with a 3-run home run in the seventh inning, giving the Lions the lead.
  • Florida Memorial head coach Florentino Burgos continued to insulate his pitching staff, using seven different pitchers against BSC-A.
  • With its 11 hits Tuesday, the Lions have recorded double-digit hits in three of the past four games.
  • Catcher Rafael Ferrara is tied for fourth on the team in batting average (.333) while sporting a 98.8 fielding percentage with 75 putouts and 8 assists in 84 total chances.
  • Senior outfielder Yunior Sanchez leads the team in total hits (23) and RBI (14), shares the lead for doubles (5), triples (2), and is one of six FMU players to have hit a home run this season.

Scouting Chestnut Hill (2-8)
  • Chestnut Hill, a NCAA Division-II program, enters the weekend series as a bit of a torpid team, having played six games over the past seven days – going 1-5 in that span.
  • Like many teams from the northeast will do during this part of the baseball season, the Griffins made a trek down the east coast and into Florida playing non-conference games.
  • CHC's only win up to this point in its spring road trip was a 6-3 win over Barry University (Fla.) this past Monday – which it followed with a 6-4 loss to the Buccaneers the next day.
  • Griffins senior first baseman/pitcher Andrew Dietz (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) is the team's most productive hitter this season, posting a .414 batting average with a team-best 10 RBI.
  • Chestnut Hill head coach Robert Spratt is the program's only head coach since the program began in 2008.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial leads the all-time series against CHC 7-3.
  • The Lions took its last weekend series against Chestnut Hill 2-1 during the 2020 season.
  • Prior to the March 7, 2020, when the Griffins took the second game of a doubleheader from FMU, the Lions had won seven consecutive games against CHC.

Keys To Victory
  • If Burgos continues to use multiple pitchers, the Lions' infield defense must remain sharp and avoid errors that lead to free bases and cheap runs.
