MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University has been playing some of its best baseball recently – winning 10 of its past 11 and seven consecutive home victories – but it will be put to its biggest test of the season when it hosts No. 1 Southeastern University for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday at FMU's Harry T. Moore Field.

The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday, with game one slated for an 11 a.m. first pitch. The series will conclude with a single game Saturday, also set for an 11 a.m. start.

About The Lions (22-16, 9-9 SUN)
  • FMU earned its seventh-straight home win this past Tuesday with a dramatic 7-6 win over Ave Maria University.
  • The Lions won the game on a breakdown by the Gyrenes, scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
  • While the win over AMU was considered a non-conference tilt, Florida Memorial currently sits alone in fifth place in the Sun Conference standings.
  • Senior outfielder Rohandry Javier extended his reached-base streak against Ave Maria, now reaching base in 34 consecutive games heading into the weekend. Javier also leads the team in being hit by pitch with 17 after taking two against AMU.
  • The Lions moved up to No. 4 – from No. 5 – in the latest Black College Nines Small School HBCU Poll.

Scouting No. 1 Southeastern (40-3, 15-2 SUN)
  • Southeastern comes to Miami Gardens as winners of its past three, but 3-2 in its past five games after dropping two games to Keiser University this past weekend.
  • Still, the Fire have been one of – if not – the best baseball teams in the NAIA this season.
  • Each of the teams' three losses this season have come by three runs; save for a 12-1 drubbing SEU took in an exhibition against the Detroit Tigers' A-Team prospects team back in March.
  • Southeastern's pitching staff has been strong all season, with Robb Adams leading the NAIA in wins (11), complete games (4), shutouts (4), strikeouts (88), and ERA (.59) as he has allowed just five earned runs through 76 innings pitched.
  • Offensively, SEU leads the NAIA in multiple categories, including runs (417), hits (494), home runs (75), batting average (.367), on base percentage (.460), and slugging percentage (.615). It also has three different hitters batting above .400.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial trails the all-time series against the Fire 10-40.
  • The Lions have yet to topple SEU in a Sun Conference matchup.
  • FMU last defeated Southeastern during the 2018 season, taking a 7-2 victory during the Sun Conference Tournament.

Keys To Victory
  • Florida Memorial must continue its trend of playing sound fielding defense. Southeastern's batters have proven they can make plenty of contact with the ball, so it will be imperative that the Lions avoid errors – especially in the infield.
