MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University will be looking to punch its ticket to the 2022 Tyson Foods Black College World Series when it takes on rival Edward Waters University (Fla.) in the NAIA Bracket Final game Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.

The unbeaten No. 1 seed Florida Memorial will have "two chances" to win one game – as they would need to be defeated twice by EWU to be ousted from the double elimination tourney.

The winner of the NAIA Bracket Final game will advance to the Black College World Series Championship Game, where it will face the winner of the NCAA Division-II Bracket Saturday afternoon for a one game, winner-take-all tilt.

About The Lions (25-21)
  • FMU rolls into the NAIA Bracket final looking like a team that's peaking at the right time.
  • The Lions cruised past Edward Waters 14-1 in seven innings Thursday in the winner's bracket game.
  • Axel Gomez hit his second home run of the BCWS in the game against the Tigers – giving him a team-best three homers this season.
  • Florida Memorial head coach Florentino Burgos also saw senior pitcher Juan Raul Hernandez throw – arguably – his best game of the season, a complete game three-hitter with one run allowed.
  • Five different FMU batters recorded two hits against EWU Thursday, including Jalen Young registering a double and a triple.
  • With their victory over Edward Waters Thursday, the Lions have defeated EWU in four of their five meetings this season. Friday would mark the sixth – and possibly seventh – meeting this year.

Scouting Edward Waters (26-27)
  • The Tigers climbed their way to the NAIA Bracket final by eliminating Rust College (Miss.) 8-5 in the loser's bracket final.
  • In its meeting with Florida Memorial Thursday, Edward Waters was sunk by a handful of defensive and pitching breakdowns.
  • EWU was charged with two errors, a balk, and had three wild pitches and three hit-by-pitches.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial leads the all-time series between the teams 12-8.
  • The six meetings between the teams this year will set a new FMU baseball program high for games against a non-conference opponent in a single season.
  • FMU has scored 10 or more runs against the Tigers in the past three meetings – including back-to-back games with 14 runs.

Keys To Victory
  • The Lions must be ready to manufacture runs. It's unlikely that they'll see many hittable pitches Friday so they must make prudent decision when moving along the base paths and be ready to capitalize on any openings.
