FMU sweeps Warner for 2nd straight conference win

LAKE WALES, Fla. | The Florida Memorial volleyball team (6-2, 2-1) swept Warner (1-10, 0-3) in three sets (25-21, 25-16, 27-25) at the Turner Athletic Center in Sun Conference action. The victory marks the second conference win in a row for the Lions, who opened up conference play with three straight road contests with one remaining.

"We've had a brutal game schedule to open our season, playing the top ranked NAIA-team then four-straight road games to open conference play," said head coach Jazmine Washington. "It really came down to having discipline and pursuing the ball tonight. Controlling the energy and tempo were giant factors in tonight's victory," Coach Washington explained. "I'm happy my girls pushed through and I'm excited to see what Southeastern has in our final game of this road trip."

Current Sun Conference Attacker of the Week Caroline Souza led the Lions with a team-high 17 kills while teammates Kimberlie Correa and Maria Rodriguez produced eight and seven kills respectively.

Lions setter Agustina Busque fed FMU attackers all night and generated a game-high 28 assists in the victory. Victoria Fernandez chipped in with two assists while Olivia Dodd added one assist for the Lions.

On the defensive end, Fernandez led FMU with 10 digs while Souza produced nine. Dodd added six digs while teammate Rafaela Nogueira tied a game-high with two blocks in the win.

As a team, Florida Memorial produced 43 kills compared to 33 for Warner. Mar Danes generated a game-high three aces while Souza and Correa added one apiece.

The Lions continue conference play on Saturday, September 24 as they face Southeastern in their fourth conference road game in a row. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.
