Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. | Florida Memorial (6-3, 2-2) had its two-game conference road game snapped in a 3-1 (16-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-27) loss to Southeastern at the Furnace. The contest was the fourth road conference game in a row for the Lions.
In set one, the Lions fell 16-25 before storming back to take set two 25-22 behind the reigning Sun Conference Attacker of the Week,
Caroline Souza, who finished with a game-high 12 kills for FMU. Teammate
Shainell Taylor was crucial at the offensive end, producing nine kills in the loss.
Set three went in favor of the Fire after another back and forth affair, but the Lions responded by taking control of the fourth set and was one point away (25-24) from forcing a fifth and final set, but FMU's
Kimberlie Correa was called for a net violation, then Southeastern went on to score the final three points of the set to complete conference victory. Correa finished with six kills in the contest.
Taylor finished with a team-high two aces while
Ludmilla Souza produced a team-high 17 assists in the loss. Fellow Lion
Agustina Busque added 16 assists for the Lions, who fall to 6-3 on the season.
On the defensive end,
Maria Rodriguez generated a game-high four blocks while teammates
Rafaela Nogueira and Correa added three apiece.
Olivia Dodd finished with a team-high 12 digs while Taylor added 10 digs in the loss.
The Lions continue conference play on Wednesday, September 28 as they host Webber International for the first home conference game of the season. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
