Box Score 3 LAKELAND, Fla. | Florida Memorial struggled to find their groove against the top ranked team in the NAIA, Southeastern, as the Fire swept the Lions in the weekend series. The losses drop FMU to 16-21 on the year, handing the Lions their first losing season since 2021 and dropping them out of the final tournament spot in the Sun Conference with one crucial conference series remaining.
Game One
Lions 1 – Fire 11
Southeastern took control early with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Luis Ruiz homered to left field for the Lions only run scored on the day in the top of the fourth. Southeastern responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth closed the game out for the Lions, losing game one 1-11.
Ricardo Alvarez de Lugo started on the mound for FMU and allowed ten hits, ten runs, one walk and struck out three Fires.
Diego Coss came in relief and allowed two hits, one run, two walks and struck out one batter.
Game Two:
Lions 0 – Fire 10
After two scoreless innings to open the game, Southeastern scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Two more scoreless innings proceeded before a run by Fire in the sixth and five in the seventh gave Southeastern a 10-run gap. FMU failed to score a run in the game and after seven innings, the game ended early, handing Florida Memorial their second loss on the day.
William Hiciano started on the mound for the Lions and allowed five hits, five runs, five walks and struck out four fires.
Jerryk Caceras came in relief and allowed four hits, five runs and one walk.
Kelvin Feliciano came in relief of Caceras and allowed one hit and one walk.
Game Three
Lions 1 – Fires 6
Southeastern took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second, followed by one run in the bottom of the third. The Fires added another run in the bottom of the sixth, giving them a 6-0 lead.
Raymond Rivera scored the Lions lone run of the game off a balk; however, FMU could not erase the deficit in the second game of the doubleheader.
Max Charnin started on the mound for the Lions and allowed five hits, four runs and one walk.
Samuel Briceno came in relief and allowed three hits, one run, two walks and struck out one batter.
Jamal Johnson came in relief for Briceno and allowed three hits, one run, one walk and struck out two batters.
Kyle Morrison finished on the mound and struck out one Fire batter.
The Lions return to action Thursday, April 27, hosting Warner at home in the series opener. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.
