FMU Lions baseball will be honored by Miami Marlins on Friday night

Florida Memorial was crowned Black College World Series Champions last month.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | The Florida Memorial baseball team, winners of last month's 2023 Black College World Series, will be honored by the Miami Marlins during Friday night's game at LoanDepot Park.

Prior to the first pitch, the Lions will enjoy a special "Marlins Batting Practice Experience" hosted by the Miami Marlins.

"Thank you to the Marlins organization for recognizing us on winning the BCWS championship," said FMU head coach Florentino Burgos. "It's an honor for our team to be hosted and recognized by such a major organization."

Following batting practice, the Florida Memorial baseball team will be escorted onto the field for a pre-game recognition before the Marlins host the Oakland Athletics at 6:40 p.m.

Florida Memorial University won its first-ever Black College World Series with a narrow 5-4 victory over Albany State in the championship game, which took 19 innings to crown a champion.

FMU ace pitcher Max Charnin was named Most Outstanding Pitcher while center fielder Jalen Young was named Most Valuable Player of the 2023 Black College World Series.
