Box Score HIALEAH, Fla. | Today marks a huge day for the FMU women's soccer progarm as the Lions shutout Florida National 2-0 to win their first match since October 2021. The win also marks the first road victory for the program since 2018 and the first career collegiate win for head coach
Marc Lue Young.

"It feels great," said Coach Lue Young. "I told the young ladies that we will not leave Florida National without a victory today and they set their sights on it. We've been practicing for two-plus weeks in the pre-season in 90 degree weather, and I think those practices paid off."
Junior
Ana De Freitas broke the scoreless tie in the 42nd minute of the match with her first goal of the season. As the first half continued to wind down, sophomore
Mariana Ballesteros scored an insurance goal in the 45th minute via a pass from
Kiara Kallie.
In the second half, the Lions possessed the ball and did not concede, keeping the clean sheet for goalkeeper Maria Goncalves.
Sierra Bartley finished with a team high five shots while De Freitas produced a team-high three shots on goal.
When asked about grabbing his first career collegiate win, Coach Lue Young said "It's a phenomenal feeling. It's been a long time coming. We have 19 new recruits to the program, each player hand picked by myself. I know what they can bring to the table and they are growing day by day as a team and as well as an individual and I am excited to see what is to come for the season."
As a team, FMU outshot Florida National 24 to 3, controlling the match in dominant fashion.
Florida Memorial returns to action Friday, Sept. 1 where they will host New College of Florida in the home opener. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Dr. Lester Brown Park in Miami Gardens.
