MIAMI, Fla. | The Florida Memorial University women's soccer team put on a thriller against St. Thomas, ending in a 0-0 draw in the Battle of Miami Gardens. The contest ends a 15-match losing streak against the Bobcats, their best result since 2015.
"It's been a long time coming," said head coach
Marc Lue Young. "I'm very happy with the draw today. The girls played their heart out. We were even (with STU). The whole game we were even. We're here baby. FMU women's soccer is here. It's a different team and I'm a different coach. We aren't the beating stick anymore. This is big."
FMU generated three shots in the match, as two of those shots were on goal. FMU sophomore
Sierra Bartley led the team with two shots, while speedster
Amealia Smith chipped in the third for the Lions. Junior
Lucia Martinez Garcia added two saves for FMU in the match.
The result moves FMU to 5-3-1 on the year and 2-2-1 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Wednesday, October 9, when they'll travel to Babson Park to take on Webber International University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Warrior Grass Field.
