Lions fall 26-6 to Bobcats in Battle of Miami Gardens

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial flag football drops its third game of the season in the Battle of Miami Gardens to St. Thomas.

Down 14-0 with less than a minute in the first half, Hollywood native Ericka Johnson came up with an interception near the goal line, taking it back to the red zone, giving FMU the ball back with a chance to close the gap with just seconds. Starting quarterback Thaymiluz Santos capitalized with a touchdown pass to Johnson to make it an eight-point game going into the half. The Bobcats pulled away in the second half, scoring 12 unanswered points to hand FMU the 26-6 defeat at AutoNation Field.

As FMU's signal caller Santos threw one touchdown but added a pair of interceptions, including one with less than 30 seconds to go to seal the game.

The loss drops Florida Memorial to 0-3 on the year and 0-3 in conference play as they search for their first win of the season.

The Lions return to action Thursday, February 29, where they'll host Fort Lauderdale in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bunche Park.
