MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial's second home game of the season ends in a 20-12 defeat from the Fort Lauderdale Eagles. The Lions started the game with a strong first drive that culminated in a
Diamond Mays touchdown pass to
Jennifer Bevel to take a 6-0 lead. Fort Lauderdale answered with 20 unanswered points leaving FMU with a 14-point deficit.
A turnover by the Eagles gave FMU the ball back with good field position which Panama City native
Thaymiluz Santos capitalized on with a touchdown pass to
Ericka Johnson to bring the score to 20-12 going into the half. The second half would go scoreless, as both sides failed to find their rhythm on offense, meaning FMU would suffer defeat for the fourth time this season.
Mays, threw one touchdown along with two interceptions in her first outing as FMU's signal caller while Santos chipped in one touchdown passing for the Lions.
Johnson put together another stellar performance, reeling in two interceptions on defense while adding on one touchdown catch for Florida Memorial.
The loss drops FMU to 0-4 on the year, and remain 0-3 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Saturday, March 2, where they'll host Webber International in the return to conference action. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Bunche Park.
