MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | In one of the most eventful games of the season, Florida Memorial loses a close contest to Life 33-27 at Bunche Park.
Down 27-7 with less than a minute in the first half, junior
Ericka Johnson provided a spark for the team with a pick-six that kept the Lions within 13 points of the Running Eagles going into the half.
FMU outscored Life in the second half 13-6, but could not close the gap further as they lost their closest game of the season, falling by only six points.
Johnson had a stellar performance as she picked off Life twice during the game, including the pick-six. Panama native
Thaymiluz Santos threw two touchdowns while throwing one interception in the contest. Santos added one touchdown on the ground and pulled in one interception on defense for the Lions. Juniors
Ronisha Gibbs and
Diamond Mays each had one touchdown reception for FMU. In total, Florida Memorial picked off Life three times.
The loss drops FMU to 0-7 on the year and 0-6 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Saturday, March 23, where they'll host Reinhardt for SUN Conference action. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bunche Park.
