LAKE WALES, Fla. | Florida Memorial's first game against Warner ends in a 10-3 defeat. For the third straight game, the Lions have allowed double-digit runs to their opponent.
After a scoreless first inning, Warner took the lead with the game's first run in the bottom of the second. The Royals added to their lead with five runs in the bottom of the third to make it a 6-0 lead over FMU. The Lions did not score until the top of the fourth when senior
Raymond Rivera hit his first home run of the season in the top of the fourth.
A scoreless fifth inning was followed by Warner adding four runs in the bottom of the sixth, extending their lead to 10-1. The top of the seventh saw sophomore
Marco Medina hit an RBI single that scored
Luis Ruiz followed by a
Genesis Nunez RBI double that scored Medina to close the deficit to seven runs. A scoreless eighth and ninth inning, however, sealed the deal for FMU as it dropped its fourth straight contest on the road.
Junior
William Hiciano (0-1), was credited with the loss and in three innings allowed nine hits and six runs, with only one being earned, while striking out two Royals. Freshman
Jonah Guinto came in relief and in three innings pitched allowed six hits, four runs, and one walk while striking out one Royal. Junior
Jacob Williams finished on the mound for the Lions, striking out one Royal in two innings pitched.
The loss drops FMU to 15-10 on the year and 3-4 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Friday, March 29, where they'll take on Warner for the doubleheader portion of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Lake Wales, Fla.
