FMU Lions soccer falls to Xavier in season opener

Box Score METAIRIE, La. | In the debut of new head coach David Martinez, the Florida Memorial University men's soccer team fell to Xavier University of Louisiana 6-0 at Lafreniere Park.

The Lions fell behind early as XULA scored in the second minute of the contest. The Gold Rush added four additional first half goals as FMU struggled defensively.​FMU Lions fall to Xavier in the season opener in Metairie

As a team, Florida Memorial generated nine shots while Xavier finished with 16.

Juan Rizo, Johan Arevalo and Rafael Coronado each tied a team high with two shots apiece while FMU goalkeeper Ricardo Delgado Villalobos finished with two saves in the loss.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday, September 10 as they host Florida College in the home opener. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
