Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | The Florida Memorial University's women's soccer team put on a clinic against Florida College, defeating the Falcons 7-1 in the final match before conference action. The win marked the first time FMU has started a season 3-0 in program history.
Lions sophomore
Sierra Bartley continued her run of form by scoring the first goal in just the third minute of the match. The Falcons tied the match in the 11th minute with a top notch Olympico goal, but Bartley, off an assist by
Rudo Marufu, gave the Lions the lead with her second goal in the 40th minute of the match. Just a few minutes later, Bartley made it three goals for the second straight match to extend FMU's lead to 3-1 over the Falcons. A hat trick wasn't enough as the sensational striker scored her match-high fourth goal off an assist from
Irati Elorduy in the 44th minute to propel FMU to a 4-1 lead going into the half.
The Lions didn't slow down in the second half as senior
Kiara Kallie scored her first goal of the season in the 56th minute. Elorduy followed suit in the 73rd minute, when she scored FMU's sixth goal of the match off a second assist from Marufo. The latter put her name on the board just a minute later when she scored the seventh goal for the Lions to seal the deal on FMU's 7-1 win over Florida College.
FMU goalkeeper
Lucia Martinez Garcia allowed one goal in the match, but added two saves, defending the net in the victory.
The win moves FMU to 3-0 on the year, the best start to a season in program history.
The Lions return to action Saturday, September 14, when they'll host Webber International University for the conference opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Orange Bowl Field.
