FMU Men's Soccer Falls to St. Thomas 2-1 in Battle of Miami Gardens

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University's men's soccer team fell to crosstown rival St. Thomas in the conference opener and round one of the Battle of Miami Gardens 2-1 at Autonation Field.

The Lions struck first when Frank Sanchez found the back of the net in the 15th minute to give FMU the lead. The Bobcats answered with a goal off a penalty kick in the 64th minute to tie, and added another goal in the 75th minute to take the lead and the win.

Sanchez led the team in shots with two and scored the Lions' lone goal, while goalkeeper Ricardo Delgado Villalobos played all 90 minutes, allowing two goals and five saves.

The loss drops FMU to 2-5-2 on the year and 0-1 to start conference play.

The Lions return to action Saturday, October 4, when they'll travel to Lakeland to take on Southeastern. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m.
