MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University put on a clinic against Webber, defeating the Warriors 5-2 at Dr. Lester Brown Park. The five goals are the most FMU has scored in a single match this season, propelling them to their third straight win.
Webber got on the board first with a goal in the 23rd minute, but it didn't take long for the Lions to answer back. Sophomore
Nasreddine Benbella scored his first goal of the match in the 29 minute to tie things up 1-1. But FMU wasn't done, as in the 36th minute,
Frank Sanchez scored his fourth goal of the season to give FMU their first lead of the day, a lead they would never relinquish. Opening the second half, Benbella, with assistance from
Rafael Coronado, found the back of the net in the 50th minute to extend the Lions' lead to two goals over the Warriors. Webber closed the gap with a goal in the 77th minute, but forward
Luigi Gallo reopened the advantage to two goals, with his first goal of the season, in the 81st minute. Benbella completed the hat trick in the 86th minute, scoring his eighth goal of the season to seal the win for the Lions over the Warriors.
Goalkeeper
Ricardo Delgado Villalobos played all 90 minutes, finishing with two saves and two goals allowed.
The win advances FMU to 5-5-3 on the year and 2-1-1 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Saturday, October 18, when they'll travel to Ave Maria to take on the Gyrenes. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
