MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | The six seed Florida Memorial University made history with a trip to the SUN Conference Flag Football Tournament for the first time in program history, eventually falling to the three seed St. Thomas 27-7 in a rematch of the Battle of Miami Gardens at Autonation Field.
In the first quarter, FMU stunned St. Thomas and went on top 7-0 as quarterback Ja'Shya Christie completed a 63-yard touchdown pass to teammate
Ameria Smith.
Later in the half, the Lions stopped the Bobcats on fourth and goal before being penalized for pass interference in the end zone, resulting in first and goal for St. Thomas, who eventually punched it in for the score.
After a scoreless third quarter, FMU was outscored 13-0 in the final quarter and eliminated from the SUN Conference Tournament.
FMU finishes the year with the best record in program history at 4-11, including an inaugural postseason trip to the SUN Conference Tournament under first year head coaches
