SIOUX CITY, Iowa | Former Florida Memorial University baseball star Max Charnin has signed with the Sioux City Explorers for the 2026 season. Charnin will compete in the American Association of Professional Baseball, an official partner league of Major League Baseball. Charnin is the 15th offseason addition for the Explorers.
Charnin joined the FMU baseball team in spring 2022 and played three seasons for the Lions. He last played for FMU in 2024, where he went 4-5 and had an ERA of 4.11. His 4.11 ERA was the lowest for any FMU pitcher that season.
In 2023, Charnin led FMU to it's first Black College World Series title. He was named Tournament Pitching MVP and was named to the 2023 Black College Nines All-Elite Team. In the tournament, he pitched seven innings, allowing just two earned runs on five hits against Rust College, sending FMU to the championship game.
The Explorers will kick off their season on Friday, May 15, against the Chicago Dogs.
