Box Score 2 MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University was down 6-2 late in the doubleheader opener against Fisher, but the Lions stayed composed and pulled off a miraculous comeback to take the 9-8 victory in game one of the series.
Game 1: Lions 9 - 8 Fisher
The Falcons opened the game with a three-run top of the first. FMU scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, first off a wild pitch that scored center fielder
Pheron Charlton, and the second off a
Justin Martinez RBI-single that scored shortstop
Daniel Lopez. Fisher would score the next four runs to take a 7-2 lead with three innings to go. The Lions chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the fifth, with a two-run homer from Martinez that also scored Lopez. Now 7-4, FMU exploded in the bottom of the sixth with a four-run inning to take the lead! First off Charlton run from an error to make it a two-run game. Next came an RBI-single from third baseman
Wilber Puertas that scored Lopez, followed by another RBI-single from second baseman
Christian Carratala to make it a one-run game. Errors from the Falcons sent home pinch hitter
Damarion Butler and pinch runner
Marquis Clarke to give FMU their first lead of the game. Fisher answered with a run the next inning to keep the game going, but a clutch single from
Delawrence Moore with two outs on the board sent home left fielder
Don McKnight III to complete the comeback victory.
Relief pitcher
Jamal Johnson (3-0), got his third win of the season. In his lone inning for the Lions, he allowed zero hits and struck out one Falcon. Sophomore
Jesus Ramos pitched three innings, allowing two hits and striking out four Falcons.
Game 2: Lions 13 - 1 Fisher
FMU kept their foot on the gas from the start, with seven runs in the first two innings. The Falcons scored their lone run in the third inning, but the Lions ballooned their lead following a five-run fourth inning and a single-run sixth inning to take the dominant victory.
Puertas led the team in runs and hits with three apiece. Puertas, Lopez, Ramirez, and Carratala each co-led the team in RBI with a pair apiece.
Sophomore
Jesus Gonzalez (1-0) got the victory and played all seven innings. He allowed four hits, one earned run, two walks, and struck out 13 Falcons.
The win marks the fifth straight for FMU, moving them to 11-6 on the year.
