Box Score The No. 4 seed Florida Memorial Women's Basketball fended off No. 5 seed Warner University in a hard-fought second half to earn a 59-55 victory on Tuesday night at the FMU Wellness Center. With the win, No. 4 seed Florida Memorial advanced to the semifinals of The Sun Conference Championships Tournament.
Florida Memorial opened the game with a 5-3 run, but Warner responded with a 6-2 run, to tie the game at 9-9. The teams went back-and-forth for the rest of the half with Florida Memorial heading to the break with a 21-18 advantage.
In the third quarter, the Lady Lions went on a 5-0 run to finish out the quarter to take a five point lead over Warner. In the fourth quarter, Florida Memorial and Warner battled out a tough final quarter of play, and the Lady Lions was able to pull away with a 4 point win.
The Lady Lions shot 38% from the field and 25% from the three point line, while holding their opponent to 33% shooting. Florida Memorial held Warner to just 10-for-22 shooting from three-point land and forced 20 turnovers.
Abreona Cabell led the Lady Lions with 20 points, 5-15 FG shooting (10-11 free throw shooting) and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Ashley Henry poured in 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, while
Victoria Jones contributed 6 points and 1 steal.
Florida Memorial will face No. 1 seed Southeastern in The Sun Conference Championship semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m.
