MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Picking up wins on your home floor is always a part of the recipe for a successful season.
Florida Memorial University's women's basketball team will be looking to earn its second victory on its home court in as many tries when it hosts Florida National University Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the FMU Wellness Center.
The game, which will be the tip-off of a women's-men's basketball doubleheader for the Lions, is expected to draw one of the biggest crowds of the season after the athletics program hosted its annual "Midnight Madness" – celebrating fall sports and officially ushering in basketball season.
FMU should benefit from the emotional lift that comes from a raucous crowd. The Lions fell behind early and could never find their footing this past Saturday in its 77-55 loss to Ave Maria University, but the extra juice from their home crowd could buoy FMU.
Florida Memorial has had the Conquistadores' number in recent matchups. The Lions defeated Florida National by an average margin of 26 points in their two meetings this past season. FMU junior guard
Airneisha Gamble led FMU in scoring this past weekend – recording 17 points – but she was the only Lady Lion to finish with double-digit points. A win Tuesday – and throughout the rest of the season – would mean bigger contributions from seniors
Isis Lane and
Shawnice King.
