MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Following their win this past Tuesday (Nov. 19), the Florida Memorial's women will be looking to carry that momentum into a big conference road test when the Lady Lions travel to face Webber International University Thursday in the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
The game, which is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and is the first game in a women's-men's doubleheader, will be FMU's second Sun Conference game this season. Having dropped its conference opener at Ave Maria this past weekend, Thursday's game has an added bit of weight as the Lions look to keep pace in the conference standings.
Florida Memorial (3-4, 0-1) and head coach
Gregory Stanback is hoping that Tuesday's big win – a 90-58 rout of Florida National University – will be the spark that the team needs as it heads into a tough stretch of its schedule.
One of the reasons for the big win Tuesday was senior
Isis Lane. The 6-foot-4 forward broke out – scoring a game-high 19 points and snatching down a game-high 15 rebounds. Stanback said he made a point to speak confidence into his senior leader, noting that she was "pressing" and instead told her to "just play basketball" and she responded with her best game of the season.
Standing in the Lions' way will be a Warriors (4-1, 1-0) team that might be the most balanced offensive team in the Sun Conference. Webber International has four players that average at least 11 points per game and two more that are right under, at nine and eight points per game respectively.
