MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Rivalry games is one of the pillars of sports.

And the best kind of a rivalry game is one between neighboring opponents.

Separated by less than two miles, Florida Memorial University and St. Thomas University not only share a zip code, but they'll also share the court when the programs meet in conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

The women's teams will square off first – tipping off at 2 p.m. in the Fernandez Family Center – and the men's game will begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game.

For Florida Memorial University's women, Saturday's game represents not just an important Sun Conference matchup but also an opportunity to push their current winning streak to five games.

The Lady Lions have strung together an impressive set of performances – this past Wednesday's "ugly" 64-53 win at Florida National University notwithstanding – over the past couple of weeks.

FMU senior Isis Lane has a personal streak running concurrently with the Lady Lions' winning streak. The 6-foot-4 forward has recorded a double-double in all of Florida Memorial's past four wins. Lane's streak aside, FMU head coach Gregory Stanback has also seen a handful of his other players step up to create a balanced offensive attack.

Ashleign Gary has flirted with double-doubles in a pair of the wins; Shawnice King has proved to be a consistent scoring threat – totaling 13 or more points in three of the past four wins – and Nashley Zayas came off the bench to score 13 Wednesday at Florida National.

If the Lady Lions (6-4, 2-1 Sun Conference) are to pick up a win Saturday it will not only need to slow down St. Thomas University's leading scorer Keiana Brooks (15 points per game), but it will need the healthy return of Unique Tate and Airneisha Gamble. Both missed Wednesday's game but Coach Stanback hasn't confirmed whether either of them would be available Saturday.
